In the wake of a disappointing E3 where Nintendo kept relatively mum about what they were working on, they’ve begun to speak louder on multiple fronts. And the general gist of what they’re saying is: It’s all about the gameplay, man. Of note:

Nintendo insider has two articles about how Nintendo, financially, is actually sitting pretty by focusing on gameplay over graphics (both of which echo the buzzcut article I previously posted. Shigero Miyamoto has bitchslapped the industry for forgetting to put the fun first. And to underscore this, the notion that Nintendo will allow players to download classic games for free has caught fire on the internet, as the players debate which classic games will make the cut, and whether or not Nintendo’s really nice enough to allow them to download the games for free.

Seems like it’s interesting times over there.

Update: In the “I’ll believe it when I see it” department, Slashdot is all atwitter over the notion that Nintendo could concievably allow anyone to develop for their older consoles and offer the games for download, in theory bringing the small independent dev scene to the consoles. I think this is where I say “Information wants to be free, yo”.

Update #2: In the comments, Rob Drimmie points out that Nintendo has debunked the rumor that their back catalog will be free.
