I just finished R6:V.

I think I really enjoyed it, but since I haven’t played it 60 to 80 hours, I can’t really be sure.

By the end, I had truly mastered the art of using my squadmates like canaries in the coal mine, in hopes that their deaths might point out muzzle flash I could use. And then it was snipe, snipe, snipe. Which I seem to be getting better at. At some point, I’ll go online and be disproven of this.

There are parts of the game that I struggled with. I’ve never been fans of games where instant death was so common. There are two or three levels in the game where, pretty much, all you can do is hope that on this die roll, the game won’t decide to make the AI chuck grenades at the only position you can stand on.

Also, the story. Dear god, that was wretched. The ending was both disappointing and exceedingly lame. And this is by FPS story standards.

And finally, if you’re going to have an FPS take place in a place as visually captivating as Vegas, why on earth start me out in Podunk, Mexico, with an emphasis on having as many possible shades of the color brown as possible?

But these are quibbles. This is the first console FPS I’ve felt compelled to play to completion, so I have to give it a thumbs up.
