Babelfish to Crush

I was ICQ’ed this babelfish translation of Chinese press copy for Shadowbane.

“In the evil spirit sword world, the swarthy skin, glistens the armor, you are the soldier, strong powerful half giant soldier. In the evil spirit sword world, neat sends the hair bun, the red master , you are the evil spirit master, attractive humanity evil spirit master. In the evil spirit sword world, aside the body black leopard, commander-in-chief is mad the hunter short coverall, you are the female hunter, fills the jungle breath demon female hunter. Outside evil spirit sword world? I take off the hard helmet, I want to see outside the game world that you.”

Thanks, Babelfish!

IGN MMO Roundtable

In my copious spare time, I’ve been taking part in the IGN roundtables for MMP developers. The first round can be found here and the followup is here. The next round will focus on PvP, an interesting topic, considering my new employer. As for the past round, I got odd compliments on my assertion that ‘MMPs aren’t fun’. I thought that perhaps I should be lynched.

MindArk Battles The Man

More webmasters with too much time on their hands.

How do you spin being busted for using unlicensed software? If you’re Mindark, you say that Microsoft is afraid of the impending cash juggernaut that is Project Entropia. If your response to this is ‘project whaaaa?’, don’t freak, you’re not alone. It gets better. As Waterthread points out, MindArk has threatened to countersue, and put all of the winnings from the case inside of the game, where players will be able to earn a piece of the pie by mining, killing monsters, whatever. You just can’t make up this level of crack.

In other news, all is back to normal in the fishtank. My puffer has not only survived the ordeal, but apparently won’t even have a scar. Right after the fight with the powerhead, it was unclear as to whether or not he would ever see out of his right eye again. However, he’s back to normal now – he’s even beating up on the littler fish again!

A parting question. How do people with piercings in unusual places go through airport security?

Everquest: Still Not As Dangerous As Love

21 year old kills himself over Everquest, mom wants to turn around and sue Sony Online. This is an old case, but thanks to CNN repeating the story, the mass market now can think that EverQuest is as deadly as shooting up.

I don’t want to denigrate the kid. He was a poor lonely kid with a lot of health and social problems before he ever set foot into Norrath. But his mom needs to be hit with the clue stick. Don’t stop at just one clue, please. Here are a couple freebies, no charge. Continue reading
